Brewer’s Dinners

Brewer’s Dinners

At Chef JJ’s Back Yard, we want our brewer’s dinners to be something different. We want education to be a focal point as the evening unfolds. The food and beers will complement each other. Why they were paired will be vocalized. Ultimately, we want you as a guest, to realize that beer can be treated like a wine and become a staple to any dinner that you may have in the future. The education piece will be presented to you as a “beer class” like structure. Dave Colt and Clay Robinson, Brewers and Co-Owners of Sun King Brewery, will focus on history, why different types of beer are called what  (lager vs. ale, etc.) and what makes them different.

Starting The Evening

We will start everyone off with the Sunlight Cream Ale as our signature beer appetizer. Seating will be at 7 pm. Once seated, we will set everyone up with tasters of each of the 5 featured beers, as well as serve a simple appetizer. Dave and Clay will go through the education of each beer, profiles, history, etc. After the “beer class” is over (limit to about 20-30 minutes) we will start to serve the first course.

Food and Beer Pairings

Each course will be served with a half pint of the pre-determined beer. At the beginning of each course the brewers will revert back to the “beer class.” They will briefly describe the beer you are drinking and what profiles will be more prominent because of the food that it is paired with. Chef JJ will then explain why he choose the certain dish and flavors for that specific beer.  This will allow for you, as a guest, to think beyond the beverage and start to link the pleasures of food and beer together. All the food served will come off of the Big Green Egg, Back Yard’s exclusive and only grilling device.

Atmosphere

We want everyone to feel relaxed at these dinners as well as feel comfortable to engage in conversation about beer and food. Conversation is key as well as interaction. We would like to offer each of our guests a different experience than they could have at any other brewer’s dinner. The difference is in the “beer class’’ structure that takes part in the beginning of the evening, giving everyone a starting point for each beer. Most importantly, we want everyone to enjoy great beer and great food!
